My name is Emily Jay and I am a DONA International certified birth doula providing services for women and their families in Calgary, Alberta (Canada). I completed my doula training and certification with DONA in May, 2015. During my time as a doula I have worked with clients of various ages, cultures, and personal/religious beliefs.
In 2010, I graduated from the University of Prince Edward Island (PEI) with my Bachelor of Arts with a major in English and a double minor in Psychology and Family Science. I went on to complete my Bachelor of Education in 2011 at St. Thomas University (NB) with a focus on Elementary Education.
Over the past several years I have worked with women through pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting in my role as a volunteer at the Calgary Pregnancy Care Centre (Calgary, Alberta), and previously at the Island Pregnancy Centre (Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island). This experience relates well to my work as a doula and is constantly challenging me to continue to learn and grow. In my role as a peer counselor at the Pregnancy Care Centre, I present information on pregnancy options, offer relationship support, provide referrals, as well as give doula support services as requested.
It is my belief that women’s bodies are designed to and are capable of birthing the babies they carry. Each woman has different preferences in regards to the location of her birth, as well as whether she would like a medical or more natural birth. My goal is to help you discover your own desires, and help you make a plan in which you are most likely to achieve the type of birth that is best for you and your baby.
