Initial Interview: no charge, no commitment
At the interview we will get to know a bit more about each other. We will discuss what a doula is and how I, as a doula, could support you during pregnancy, birth, and the early postpartum period. The interview is an opportunity for you to get to know me and ask as many questions as you like. It is important that you feel comfortable with whomever you choose to have as part of your birth experience. Trust is also essential, so this is a chance to begin establishing trust.
One-Two Prenatal Meetings: make birth plan, provide information, pregnancy support
The first meeting is usually at about 7 months (32 weeks) and the next meeting at 8 months (36 weeks). At these meetings we will discuss your pregnancy and address any questions, concerns, or fears you may have. I will also provide relevant information and resources. One of the main things I will assist you with is creating your birth plan. I will explain my role and limitations as a doula as well as how I work with your partner/husband to support you. Also, we will discuss your postpartum plans for you and your baby (ie. support, feeding, sleeping, etc.).
On-call: Available 24/7 from 38-42 weeks
I am available to be reached 24 hours a day beginning at 38 weeks.
Support During Labor & Birth: Physical in person support throughout labor & birth
When labor begins and you are ready for my support, I will meet you at your home, the hospital, or the location of the birth. I will remain with you until the baby is born. During labor and birth I use my professional training, knowledge, and experience to assist and advise on physical comfort measures including relaxation, visualization, soothing touch, and positioning; help inform you about the course of your labor and your options; as well as provide continuous emotional support for the entire labor. I will discuss your concerns with you and advocate for you by encouraging you or your partner/husband to speak directly to the care providers regarding your preferences, decisions, and concerns.
Early Postpartum: help with first feeding
Whether you have chosen to breast or bottle feed, I will be available to support you with getting feeding established. I usually stay with you for 1-2 hours following the birth.
Birth Story: individual story of your child’s entrance to the world
Based on notes taken during your labor and birth, as well as memories and experiences throughout our time together, I will compile a birth story that is sure to be a special keepsake for you and your child for years to come. The birth story will be given to you at the postpartum meeting.
Photos- during labor & birth
Although I am not a professional photographer, I love taking photos. My primary role is to support you, however; if you desire photos, I will do my best to capture what I can. The photos will be given to you at the postpartum meeting.
One Postpartum Meeting: to review your birth experience and provide necessary support
Within one or two weeks of the birth, we will meet to discuss your birth experience as well as any questions or concerns you have. In addition, we will discuss your satisfaction with my services as your doula.
